Cotton print dress

Cotton print dress

This cotton dress had a beautiful spring print, but was very unstructured in the fit - as can be seen in the final two pictures from the manufacturer's website.

The client wanted something that would be more flattering to her curves and give a slightly sexier 'wench' look!

The bodice was lined with the same fabric, which gave us options for alteration as we could re-line it with plain cotton lawn and liberate extra fabric. We changed the neckline at the front and back to a lower, square shape, which the client knew suited her well. We also added a gathered panel across the centre front and back to give some softness that flattered the bustline. Finally, the back waistband had elastic inserted to allow it to be cinched in, showing a defined, small waist and create an hourglass shape to the dress.

Finally, we shortened the sleeves to bracelet length. We added cotton lace threaded with olive green ribbon to pick up the colours in the dress, and add some more feminine detail.

A very successful transformation!
